[Session 1]: Regional Air Quality Management – Cooperation Opportunities Among Different Regions and/or Sectors

China’s effort to improve air quality took a major step forward with the State Council’s promulgation of the Air Pollution Action Plan 2013. Relevant national laws were revised in 2015 and 2018. A part of the effort to fight pollution is to encourage regional cooperation. This session looks at the efforts made in the Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong and Guangdong), Yangtze Delta Area (Shanghai and its environs) as well as in the Beijing-Tianjin region. The presenters are all key players in their respective regions in conducting scientific and policy work. They will also share their outlooks of regional cooperation into the 14th Five Year Plan (2021-25).

[Session 2]: The rising photochemical pollution problem and solutions: VOCs, ozone and fine particulate matters

Since the State Council’s promulgation of the Air Pollution Action Plan 2013, China as a whole has made great strides in reducing fine particulate matter. However, ozone remains a very major headache for scientists and policy-makers. [Session 3]: Source, Transport and Prediction of Air Pollutants

The hard work done over the past decade in air science and air quality modelling in China has been crucial to advance understanding of the air pollution control with notable successes in reducing fine particulate matter. However, there is much more cutting-edge scientific work to be done, including with ozone.
